Mission Letter: A Cross, Not a Crown

To Whoever’s Reading This,

I hope this letter reaches you at the right time. I'm writing to share something deeply personal and meaningful—something that’s been stirring in my heart. I feel ready to use this platform in this season of my life.

Through His love and grace, I’ve been brought into the Kingdom of God. Never did I imagine using online platforms to meet people where they are, to teach about the name of Jesus. That changed in March of 2024, when I started a series on Instagram called “A Proverb a Day Keeps the Devil Away.” It began with a pure heart, simply wanting to serve the Lord with something I valued deeply—my Instagram account.

But quickly, the enemy twisted it into a numbers game. Suddenly, engagement became my top priority. I started researching the best times to post—not to reach more people in Jesus’ name, but to reach more people in Alonso’s name. After 31 straight days of posting, I felt disgusted and burned out. I knew what that series had done to my heart and my spiritual standing with God. So, I stepped away from social media and haven’t posted a preaching or teaching video since.

It wasn’t that the Proverbs series had bad doctrine—God still used it to reach thousands. But for me, it wasn’t about that. The Lord knows my heart, and honestly, that’s what scares me the most. I feel called to vocational ministry, but I constantly question my motives. Am I seeking attention? Am I chasing platforms or genuinely seeking people? Do I want crowds without conversation? A microphone but not mealtime with the broken?

If serving is too small for me, then leading is too big for me.

One day, I had a conversation with (now) Dr. David Shapiro. He told me that if I’m scared and convicted about my heart being led astray by likes and comments, then my heart is in a good place with God. That changed everything for me. My biggest fear in life is crickets—and becoming a Pharisee with a platform.

I’ve always had deep reverence for those who speak. It’s one of the most difficult positions a human can take. Pastoring and preaching are roles I’ve never chased, because I understand the weight, persecution, and criticism that come with carrying that cross. The average churchgoer gets it wrong: the pastor isn’t the biggest man on campus—he’s the biggest servant. Your life becomes a living offering. Your body becomes a vessel of the Spirit, if surrendered rightly, used to teach the nations.

The pastor should be last on the VIP list—but he’s always first on the enemy’s hit list. Pastors are targeted because if they fall out with God, many in the congregation often fall with them. They are the shepherds entrusted with the flock.

A cross is the only thing that comes to mind when I think about teaching the Good News of Jesus. I don’t wear a crown on my head—even though Satan loves to make me feel like I do. I feel called to teach my generation—not with my own words, but with the words of God.

I've putting this off for a while but no more. A few weeks before launching this page I was talking to one of my spiritual fathers Kevin Williams and he said "Ministry doesn’t end when you leave the four walls of a church.
Personal ministry is ongoing—it never stops"
Those words gave me the push I needed to launch this project.

I don’t have it all figured out, but I’m walking by faith, trusting that God will lead me every step of the way. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Your prayers, support, or even just your encouragement mean more than you know.

With love and purpose,
Alonso Carcamo
